Republican Design Institute for Land Management Belgiprozem was established on March 30, 1961 to solve problems of radical improvement of land management organization, improvement of design and survey technologies, setting up of appropriate conditions for providing collective and state farms with land management documentation. Land surveying parties and detachments of regional land management departments were subordinated to the Institute, combined into six land management expeditions. Already in the first years of its activity the Institute carried out orders of agricultural organizations working on internal land management, updating planning and cartographic materials, and issuing state acts for unlimited use of land.
In 1969 the Institute's structure was changed: five regional expeditions were transformed into Belgiprozem branches, and Minsk expedition, being a production department, became part of the parent organization. Due to the accelerated development of productive forces and improvement of industrial relations, the role of land as the most important means of production and a natural resource rose in all branches of the national economy of the republic. Accordingly, the tasks of land management grew significantly more complicated. Their successful solution required further strengthening and development of the land management service, as well as Belgiprozem institute.
By the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the formation of the Republic of Belarus, the parent enterprise in Minsk and branches in Grodno, Vitebsk, Gomel and Brest had modern production buildings. The influx of new personnel intensified. Over time, the institute turned into a powerful and well-equipped enterprise whose activity was aimed at fulfilling state tasks in the field of land management.
In 1996, the institute was renamed into the State Enterprise Belgiprozem Design Institute, and in January 2000 it was re-registered into the Republican Unitary Enterprise Belgiprozem Design Institute.
Currently, the Republican Unitary Enterprise Belgiprozem Design Institute, being the parent organization, has in its structure five Subsidiary Unitary Enterprises in Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel, Grodno and Mogilev.
During the establishment and development of the institute, the material and technical base has been steadily strengthened, the production equipment has been enhanced with modern geodetic, photogrammetric and electronic computing equipment, office equipment, and design and survey technologies have been improved.
The institute maintains the continuity of generations. Veterans who were at the origins of its establishment and participated in its development are consistently replaced by a new generation of specialists, who are trained in the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy, Belarusian State University and Polotsk State University.
Over the past period (more than 50 years) Belgiprozem Institute has grown into a powerful multi-industry design and survey organization, capable at a high technical level to solve complex problems of study and organization of the rational use and protection of the land reserves of Belarus. The highest authority is the State Committee on Property of the Republic of Belarus
